why I now really like Barack Obama

He has openly dismissed James Dobson in a meaningful way which does not throw out Christianity with the bathwater. I like him now. A lot.
Highlight from the Huffingtonpost entry that you can link to from the opening sentence of this blog entry:
Obama also cited Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, “a passage that is so radical that it’s doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application.”
“Folks haven’t been reading their Bibles,” Obama said in the speech.
My friends in various places still really like Dobson and listen to his radio show, but I just cannot do it. And the website mentioned in the end of this article, which was set up as a response to Dobson, does not seem totally lame, either. Lest we not forget, Dobson knows Dubya. This is a photo of them at the National Day of Prayer.
Just for fun, here’s Dobson stating he would never vote for MCain (or Guilani).
(blog note: i’m not showing stories or images directly on my own page because I don’t know the legal issues implicated in such an action).

Funny, earlier this morning I posted this on my LJ; it’s from the same key note.
“Faith doesn’t mean that you don’t have doubts. You need to come to church in the first place precisely because you are first of this world, not apart from it. You need to embrace Christ precisely because you have sins to wash away – because you are human and need an ally in this difficult journey.”
I like that… Go Obama.
I still think Dobson says some good stuff sometimes, but parts of it is just… fundamentalism without any connection to Christian faith.

Dobson is a sack of shite. We all know it. First he said he would never back a candidate who is not anti-abortion (which is what his absurd doctrine of pro-life really means) now he backs McCain anyway. That universal healthcare and universal access to education and reduction of unwanted pregnancies are not cornerstone doctrines in the definition of pro-life is actually quite sickening. Obama’s position is consistently pro-life and he needs to tell people why. Get rid of this inaccurate pro-choice moniker that betrays the truth of his position. It reveals how anemic and charlatan snake-oil used-car salesmen BS liars and cheats like Dobson and his kin are. Bastards.
